We are incredibly excited to show you our collaboration with MIJO studio.
At the start of our HOTELMOTEL adventure, colour and texture inspiration on Instagram and one of the first accounts that caught our attention was Mijo studio. The minimalist Scandinavian design, the bright, bold and pastel colors and the contrasts of textures caught our attention instantly. In addition, our studios are both made up of 2 female artist entrepreneurs.
MIJO STUDIO is a design studio based in Copenhagen that focuses on textiles, prints and patterns founded in 2015.
Miranda Tengs Brun and Josefine Gilbert
The two designers met at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Design where a shared passion for colour and bold prints united them to challenge and explore the use of patterns and textiles in the design field. Exploring colours and textures using analog techniques, their work is characterized by a hand-painted expression, emphasizing their curious and playful approach to the creative process.
From their studio based in Copenhagen, they design creative solutions for experimental projects and exhibitions as well as commercial collaborations in various fields of design.
We approached Miranda and Josefine in 2018 on Instagram and asked them if they could apply their techniques and patterns on to the leather. We sent samples of leathers and dyes. In summer 2019, Niki went to visit a shoemaker friend in Copenhagen and met the designers duo in person at their studio. They spent the day experimenting on leather outside on the sidewalk with the puzzled eyes of passersby. Niki brought these precious samples back to Montreal where we started our work.
